Words We Felt
스페이스원에서는 오는 5월 24일부터 여성 개인전 공모에 선정된 사라 리바 모어와 쏘냐 마리아 보스너 작가팀의 ‘Words We Felt’ 전시가 이루어진다.
이번 전시 ‘Words We Felt’ 는 우리의 존재에 대한 아이디어와 사상들을 묘사한다. 오늘날 ‘인간’이란 무엇을 의미하는가? 사회적으로, 동등하게 그리고 특히: 여성 또는 취약한 사람의 몸은 오늘날 어떤 것인가? 살아있다는 것은 어떤 느낌인가? 죽는다는 것은 어떤 것인가? 이런 물음들에 대한 답은 없을 것이다. 그러나 우리의 시야를 예리하게 하여, 다시 보거나 보지 못하게 하는 능력을 확장시키고 인간의 욕망과 두려움을 위한 공간이 생기길 바란다. 결국 근본적인 질문이 남아있다: 당신은 어떻게 느끼고, 어떻게 표현하는가?
우리의 신체적 필요에 알맞는 언어를 찾으려 하는 동안, 우리 자신이나 다른 사람들에 대한 불편함을 어떻게 다루는가?
모어와 보스너는 그들 자신의 몸과 그 주위를 체우고 있는 공간 및 환경과의 관계 안에서 다양한 질문을 던지며 스페이스원 공간 아래, 위 층에서 장소 특정적 설치를 선보인다.
Space One presents ‘Words We Felt’ by Sonja-Maria Borstner and Sarah Reva Mohr. The exhibition maps ideas and thoughts about our existence. What does it mean to be human nowadays? What is a body, socially and identically – especially: what is a female/or vulnerable human body nowadays? How does it feel to be alive? What is it like to die? There won't be any answers, but hopefully a place that can emerge offering a room to our (human) desires and fears, sharpening our vision to expand our ability to re-see and un-see. In the end a fundamental question is left: How do you feel and how do you articulate it? How do we handle the feeling of discomfort within ourselves or towards others while trying to find a language that fits to our bodily needs?
Within two site-specific installations in the lower and upper floors of Space One, the artists are circling around these questions, emphasizing the body in its different notions and states. Sculptural, text- and video-based fragments form intimate and personal conversations between the space and the artist’s bodies simultaneously surrounding and inhabiting each other.
작가소개/ Artist intro:
사라 리바 모어 (*1987) 는 사회적 관계 속에서 정체성의 정서적 형성과 자아에 대한 연구를 그녀의 예술적 실천 방법에서 추구한다. 가장 중점적인 심미적 문제는 현재 사회구조 내에서 몸과 그것들의 파편들과 소통할 수 있는 가능성에 대한 조사이다. 비평적 대화의 플렛폼으로 설치 및 텍스트를 창조한다. 그는 최근에 비엔나, 베를린, 프랑크푸르트등에서 다양한 전시를 선보였으며 아조레스 및 일본에서 레지던시를 했다.
Sarah Reva Mohr (*1987) pursues in her artistic practice ways of researching on the emotional formation of identities and the self within social relations. A central aesthetic matter is the investigation of possibilities to communicate the body and its fragmentation including societal norms and structures. She creates installations and text-based work as a platform for discourse and critical approach. In addition to residencies on the Azores and Japan, she exhibited recently at „Basis Project Room“ in Frankfurt, „Sprechsaal“ in Berlin and „Public Domain“ in Vienna.
Sonja-Maria Borstner (*1990)는 신체 관련 주제와 오늘날의 물리적 실재에 대해 변화하는 인식에 초점을 둔 작가, 큐레이터 그리고 아티스트이다. 그녀의 작업은 우리가 깊이 관여하고있는 정치적, 경제적 및 기술적 조건을 반영한 것이다. 그는 최근에 일본 마쓰도, 베를린, 뒤셀도르프등에서 다양한 전시를 서보였으며 현재 서울대학교에서 교환 프로그램을 진행중에 있다.
Sonja-Maria Borstner (*1990) is an artist, writer and curator focusing on body-related subjects and the changing perception of physical presence today. Her work is a reflexion of political, economical and technological conditions that we are deeply involved with. Most recently she exhibited at „Mad-City-Gallery“ in Matsudo (JP), as well as „Satellit“ in Berlin (G), „Nina-Sagt-Gallery“ in Düsseldorf (G) and „Zollamt Gallery“ in Offenbach/Main (G). Currently she is doing an exchange at the Fine Arts Department of Seoul National University.
About the collaboration:
Transnational dialogue between two countries, different spaces and time zones – what does distance do to our bodies? How do time zones affect artistic productions?
How does our communication change if it is only possible via screens? No bodily communication – lack of haptic and sense of smell. A closer working relationship on something that connects us, elaborating different strategies of collaborative work in times of mainly digitized communication and changing territorial distances.
