이런?생태? / This?Ecology?
스페이스원은 2019년 마지막 전시로 ‘이런?생태?’ 를 선보입니다. 이번 전시는 2019년 스페이스원 후반기 인턴 프로그램에 참여한 최상희의 첫 개인전입니다.
시간이 있기에 세대차이가 발생하고, 반대 편의 땅에 거주하기 때문에 반대되는 이념을 갖게되는 것처럼, 이런 이분적인 생의 양상은 자연스러운 법칙과도 같아보인다. 이를 바탕으로 <이런? 생태?>는 필연적으로 이루어지는 상호관계에 대한 질문에서 시작한다. 다만 관계를 우리 주위를 둘러싼 환경으로 바라보는 시각이 아닌, 크고 작은 생태들이 얽혀있는 모습으로 바라보고자 한다. 당신은 어느 곳에서 어떻게 생존하는가? 그 모습은 건너편의 저 이와 어떻게 다른가? 양극의 차이, 즉 이념에 중립은 존재할 수 없지만, 이번 전시를 통해 공존의 영역을 강제로, 작위적으로 만들기를 시도한다.
“나의 조각에서 나타나는 원기둥 형상들은 독립된 대상들의 사이를 오고갈 수도 있고, 동시에 각각 다른 두 항들을 공존시킬 수 있는 매개체로 사용된다. 이런 형태와 더불어 조각 속에서 흐르는 물은 조각이 가진 부동성과 반대되는 성질을 가지고 있기에, 우리가 일상에서 의식하지 못하는 불가항력적인 시간을 나타낸다. 하수구에서 흘러나오는 물을 우리가 인지하진 않지만 언제나 흐르듯이 말이다.” (작가노트중)
Space One presents THIS? ECOLOGY? by Sang-hee Choi. Choi participated in the intern program working on various projects with Space One. As part of her final independent project, she presents her first solo exhibition.
Time creates a generation gap between the young and the old; and people residing on opposite sides of the world have opposing ideologies. This dichotomy seems natural. This? ecology? starts with this question of interwoven inter-relationships between binary elements in time and space. It further looks at the environment as small to large ecosystems. Where and how do you and I survive? How is the method of surviving different from one person to another, one place to another, one time to another? The exhibition attempts to create a realm of contrived and absolute co-existence.
The three part installation explores these questions creating a sense of ecosystem, awkward and balanced, within the relations among the sculptures, found objects and water. The columns in the works freely cross the borders. They are the medium between two coexisting and opposing objects. Water flows through the works; the fluidity of water explores an inextricable time we are unconscious of in our daily lives. Water is always flowing in and out of the sewers whether we are aware of it or not.
작가소개/ artist intro
최상희는 조각과 조각적 설치를 만든다. 작가는 일상의 사물과 조각적 조형을 혼합하여, 물리적 한계에 따라 발현되는 인간의 의식에 관심을 두고있다. 그는 최근 을지로 세운상가의 자립형 예술공간 <안정>에서 <무고한 인공의 자녀들>개인전을 가졌다.
Sang-hee Choi makes sculptures and installations. Mixing everyday objects with sculptural compositions, she is interested in human consciousness, that is manifested by physical limits. Her recent solo exhibition includes <To the innocent of Children the artificial> in the alternative art space <Ahnjeong>.
