2015년 <Space One> 첫 번째 전시 ‘is’는 사물과 공간을 ‘’현상’’으로 해석한다. 진희웅, 김현지 작가는 이 ‘’현상’’을 현존하는 각각의 공간에 다른 흐름이 개입하면서 일어나는 변화와 관객들의 감각으로 풀어낸다. 이 두 작가는 시각과 청각을 기호로 읽을 뿐 아니라, 하나 이상의 소실점을 가진 다양한 상호 작용들을 전체로 경험하는 것으로 표현한다.
진희웅의 'Is a ghost marching next to me' 는 공간 안과 밖에 항상 있지만 들리지 않는 존재들에 주목한다. 공간 안팎에 창문, 갈라진 벽, 정수기, 계단, 문턱,바닥 등은 그 자체를 드러내지 않고 항상 그곳에 머물러 있다. 이런 미묘한 것들을 수집하여 물리적인 소리로 증폭시켜 한 공간 안에서 관객과 함께 공존한다.김현지는 자연으로부터 시작, 자연의 다양한 모습과 인간의 여러 가지 감성을 연결한다. 이번 작업 ‘Stillness’ 는 겉으로 죽어 버린듯해 보이는 공간이 가지는생명 체적 고요함을 표현하고자 한다. 생명을 잃은 듯 어둠 속에 놓여있는 공간에 관객의 순수한 감성이 상호 작용하며 생명의 빛을 만든다.
진희웅은 청주대학교 회화과 졸업, 동 대학원 회화과 수료, 2011년 mycheongjuchandelierchohab 프로젝트 그, 2013년 artist run space Salon_Vit운영, 2014년 광주 바림 미디어 스페이스 레지던시 프로그램에 참여하였다. 현재는 청주 창작 스튜디오 입주하여 활동 중이다. 주변 특정 물건들의 조합, 그 안에서의 질서와 무질서, 그리고 물건들이 가지고 있는 본래 미적인 부분을 발견하고, 배치, 나열, 공간에 대한 변화를 통하여 전혀 다른 의미가 생성되는 실험적 작업을 진행하고 있다.
김현지는 수원대에서 조소 전공 후 영국 Nottingham Trent University Fine Art 학부 졸업 후 현재는 서울에서 작업 활동을 하고 있다. 자연과 사람의 교감을 표현하고, 그것을 도시 속 공간으로 끌어들여 자연의 다양한 재료 혹은 그것으로 만들어진 새로운 오브젝트와 조명, 사운드, 영상 등 다양한 미디어로 공간을 재창조한다.
Space One presents its first exhibition of 2015, is. HeeWoong JIN and HyunJi KIM interpret space and objects as phenomenon, depicting them with interventions that produce a number of shifts in the audiences’ senses. The two artists express sound and visual language as a whole experience, with various interactions of multiple meeting points.
HeeWoong JIN’s Is a Ghost Marching Next to Me? focuses on listening to what exists inside and outside of the space, especially that which doesn’t appear to interact with us. Using the windows, cracks in the walls, water cooler, doorstep, staircase and floors, he collects and amplifies their sounds in the space so that they coexist with the audience. HyunJi KIM relates different aspects of nature and the various sensitivities of humans.Stillness expresses the tranquillity of the life of the space, and the light of life is created in the interaction between the innocent sensitivities of the audience and the dark-as-lifeless space.
HeeWoong JIN graduated from Cheongju University with a Bachelor's and Masters in Painting. He started the (currently ongoing)mycheongjuchandeliercohab project group in 2011, managed the artist-run space Salon_Vit in 2013, participated in the Gwangju Barim Media Space residency program in 2014, and is currently an artist in residence at Cheongju Creative Arts Studio. HeeWoong JIN is carrying out an experimental process of discovering combinations of surrounding objects, the order and chaos within such combinations, and the aesthetic elements inherent in objects, and then creating new meanings through alterations in arrangement, enumeration and space.
HyunJi KIM graduated from the University of Suwon, where she majored in Sculpture, and received a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art from Nottingham Trent University, UK. She currently lives and works in Seoul. HyunJi KIM's work associates and expresses the beauty felt from nature and the sensitivity of human beings, which she then brings into the space of the city. She recreates space by using various materials from nature or made objects by combining them with light and other media, such as sound and image.
