김태연의 개인전 '자르고 잇고 박는다'는 작가의 작업과정을 그대로 재현하는 퍼포먼스를 통해 자신의 내면과 조우하는 시간을 갖는다. 작가는 단순하고 반복적인 작업방식으로 내면에 몰입하고, 그 안에서 정신적 침묵을 얻는다. 그의 작업은 외부의 자극들을 비우고 채우는 과정을 반복한다. 이번 전시 '자르고 잇고 박는다' 는 작품과 더불어 작업과정을 소개함으로써 작가의 체험을 관객들과 공유한다.

자르고 잇고 박는다,
내 게 작업은 일종의 깨우침이다. 나의 모든 감각을 내면으로 돌리고 자신과 마주할 수 있는 시간이다. 재료를 정리하고 만져 새롭게 하는 행위는 곧 나의 내면을 새롭게 하는 것으로 이어진다. 재료가 무엇이든 상관없다. 재료를 만져 무엇이 되는가 역시 중요하지 않다. 행위에 집중함으로써 체험할 수 있었던 몰입의 순간. 다만 그것이 절실할 뿐이다. '/작가노트 중
김태연은 홍익대학교에서 섬유미술 박사과정을 마치고, 2000~2007년에 걸쳐 타피스트리 작가로 활동했으며 2014 KCDF 갤러리 개인전을 포함해 한국, 중국, 미국등에서 전시를 하며 활발한 활동을 하고 있다. 김태연은 최근 직물구조의 기본요소인 실을 잣는 것으로부터 출발하여 직조와 재봉기법을 활용해 자신만의 고유한 섬유 소재를 제작하고 있다. 일상의 다양한 소재들을 사용해 실을 만들고, 그것의 전환가능성을 실험한다. 쉽게 선택되고 쓰임의 여부와 상관없이 다시 쉽게 버려지는 폐비닐을 수집해 실과 직물을 만드는 과정에서 발견되는 물성의 변화로부터 얻은 영감은 작품제작으로 이어진다.
cut, tie, sew by Taeyoun Kim, presents both the process of and the work she creates. For Kim, working process is an encounter of her inner self. Simple and repetitive movement creates a time of inversion and mental silence. Through this process, the artist repeats the emptying and re-filling of oneself, continuously tossing away the external stimulus. In this exhibition, the artist shares her inner process with the audience by performing her working process along with the display of her work.

Process is a time of awakening. It is when all my senses invert and reflect. Organizing and recreating old materials is synonymous with organizing and recreating my inner self. I simply yearn for the moment of intensity, the moment of silence.'
TaeYoun Kim received her Ph.D. in Fiber Art from Hong-ik University in 2013. Since 2000, she has exhibited in a number of galleries across Korea, China and the US, and her recent solo shows include 2014 Plastic Bag Yarn & Fabric, KCDF Gallery, and 2012 Yarn: the beginning where it all ends Iang Gallery. Kim has recently been producing her own type of textile materials, by spinning yarn and using various weaving and sewing techniques: she experiments in converting various materials found in our daily lives into yarn. Discovering the potential of vinyl and plastic bags that are discarded in large quantities everyday, Kim started collecting these plastic wastes to produce yarn and textiles. The inspiration from the change in the material property leads to the creation of work.
